While off shore or at anchor, a typical "electical" day on JOSS begins with starting her 8kw Northern
Lights generator. After letting it warm up a little you flip the charging switch on the electrical panel
to initiate the Heart Interface battery charger. Battery management is handled by a state of the
art 3 stage regulator to maximize charging speed, efficiency and battery life. The house batteries are
charged at rates at up to or even above 130 amp hours while the engine and genset starting batteries are trickle
charged to keep them in good shape over long layovers. As battery charging settles in turn on refrigeration, hot
water and the water maker. Typically, an hour and a half later shut everything down and you are done until the
following day.
After a hard day of mountain biking, swimming and scuba diving, have a HOT shower, an excellent dinner
(perhaps something from the freezer). Then turn on the 110 volt "real" lamps (via the inverter) throughout
the cabins for comfortable light and easy reading. Don't worry!. The 12 volt batteries will be recharged
during the morning genset run. Sweet!
