Cheoy Lee 48' JOSS
Navigation and Electronics
Overview: Joss is fully equipped with complete computer based navigation
systems and electronics. A list of her "gear" can be found by clicking
here. But how about an overview. JOSS uses
a windows based PC as her central "computer." All of Joss's electronics are routed to the PC
where charting and all RayNav data is available. Of course, she also has cockpit displays for
many of the instruments.
In fact, with the radar, GPS driven charting systems, large LCD display
and gyro based Ratheon below decks autopilot, JOSS can be steered through the tightest of spots
from the nav station down below. Of course, we absolutely don't suggest you do this without
someone top side, however, we have found in the dense Maine fog, that steering from below while
the people top side watch for obstacles is an excellent mode of operation.
On short handed offshore passages it is very nice at night to be secure and safe in the companionway letting
"auto" steer the boat than back in the cockpit where spray and errant waves can be extremely dangerous.

pactor III modem for getting email while at sea.
