Cheoy Lee 48' JOSS Under Sail

Cheoy Lee Joss showing the tack of her 1700 square foot asymmetrical spinnaker.

Cheoy-Lee Joss originally was a cutter rigged Ketch. Taking the advice of designer Bob Perry her inner forestay ("babystay") was made removable with a quick release, and she was fitted with a large 130 jib. Her current sail plan is very versatile. We typically run her upwind with the big 130 jib (or 100 if wind is up) and the main (3 reef points) and the mizzen down. Downwind we use the 130 or the 1700 square foot asymmetrical chute with the mizzen up.

The sail inventory includes :
  • 130 jib
  • 100 jib
  • 1700 square foot asymmetrical spinnaker with sock
  • Yankee to be run with staysail.
  • Stay sail (small jib) for use on inner forestay (very heavy weather) with Yankee
  • 1700 square foot asymmetrical spinnaker with sock
  • main sail with 3 reef points
  • mizzen sail with 3 reef points
